13 October 2016 – Diabetes Public Engagement event – Tuesday 25th October 2016.

People in Leicester who live with, or are affected by, diabetes will be given the opportunity to have their say on how the condition is managed locally, at an event hosted by Diabetes UK on Tuesday 25 October, at Leicester Tigers Stadium from 18:30 – 20:30.

The Diabetes Public Engagement event will give locals the opportunity to meet with the charity’s staff, and key healthcare professionals, who will be on hand to give an overview on regional diabetes care and what the future holds for people living with, or caring for people, with the condition.

Attendees will also receive up-to-date information on the raft of services available to support people living with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

Leicester City CCG will be joining the charity to ensure all questions surrounding current health provision for people living with diabetes and plans for the future can be answered.

As well as an update on the care options available in the city, you will get the chance to meet other people living with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and members of the Diabetes UK Midlands team will be there too.

Refreshments are available at the event, which is free to attend. To book a place please call 01922 614500 or email midlands@diabetes.org.uk.

Monday 10th October 2016 is World Mental Health Day

03 October 2016 – World Mental Health Day – Monday 10th October 2016.

Monday 10th October 2016 is World Mental Health Day.  To highlight this important area of well-being Radio Fox presenter Johnny Bance recently interviewed Pete Hirst vocalist from the acoustic band Refuge.  Refuge work within the Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust performing in the hospital wards for patients.

Pete Hirst also spoke of the rethinkyourmind project.  Created by those with experience of mental health challenges, themselves service users – its purpose to creatively express well-being.

Everyone from Leicester Leicestershire & Rutland can enter pieces of art photography & poetry around the theme ‘I Feel Better When I am’. Great prizes to be won with the possibility of being published in The LPT Yellow Book & appearing on music singles by The Bluetones lead singer Mark Morriss & BBC Radio 2 folk award winner Lucy Ward & Refuge. The project is free to enter & open to all ages.

More information can be found by clicking on the links.  rethinkyourmind Poster.

The theme for this year’s World Mental Health Day, set by the World Federation for Mental Health, is psychological first aid and the support people can provide to those in distress.  For more information click on the links.
